Home Audio Production | Production
You're here! This is the final step in the long process that is home audio production. In some ways, this is actually the easiest step for home users. This is because of the differences between huge record companies and simple home users. The big guys have to worry about having millions of albums all over the world, cd creation, shipping, huge amounts of sales, and all sorts of other things. You, on the other hand, can easilt mimic these activities on the small scale from the chair you're sitting in right now!
Industry Tip #5: Natural Talent not required
Rockstar not required.
Too many people are under the impression that you need to be a source of amazing musical talent on your own before you can actually succeed in this business. That is quite untrue.
It certainly doesn't hurt if you're the next John Lennon, but it is far from a requirement. You need people skills much more than personal musical skills.
You'll need to start out with two things in this phase: a CD burner and a bunch of blank CDs. Many people should already have this but, in case you don't, a CD burner can be purchased for under $50 and a 100-pack of blank CDs goes for about $100. You'll get a better deal if you buy in higher quantities, as usual. Also, take a look at LightScribe technology. It adds to your costs a little bit (both for the burner and the blank discs), but it will instantly elevate your status in the industry. In other words, when people buy CDs that you've made with graphics and text directly on the CD already, they'll be impressed and want to buy more in the future (this goes for artists as well as actual consumers).
Industry Tip #1: LOVE Music
It should be your passion!
The most important thing in this business is to have an absolute undying love for music itself. Sure, you can have your favorite genres and artists, but don't close yourself out of opportunities.
Just like the girl in this picture, you should have a child-like fascination and enjoyment of the music that you're working with. If you don't like what you're working on, how do you expect anybody else to?
That's about it! Get to your burning of CDs and start distributing through your artists!
