Mixing and recourding audio using your personal home computer couldn't be easier with the resources that we have today. With the raw processing power of modern computers, you can do a lot of amazing things with your tracks. Modern technology can help a great deal on your road to success, but you still must understand the concepts behind the software to produce a truly high-quality product. It doesn't require too much computer recording studio equipment to end up with a great little producing station.

In order to record on audio onto your computer, you'll need a couple essential items. You're going to have to have a powerful computer with a relatively up-to-date soundcard. Next, it is time to go shopping for all that software you'll use to get the audio recorded to your computer (and further edit it). Find a quality set of headphones to have handy. Don't overlook the importance of getting at least one good microphone.

You can't do any computer audio recording without actually having a computer. Nearly any modern day system, whether it is Windows, Mac, or Linux, will get the job done. The faster CPU (Central Processing Unit) and the more RAM (Random Access Memory) you have, the better. Some people choose to build a computer meant just for the purpose of recording audio. If you're only looking to record a few tracks at a time, you may not need such an elaborate setup. Next, you'll need to purchase a high-quality soundcard or audio interface to put into your system.

There are plenty of decisions you can make when it comes to picking a external audio interface or soundcard. You don't need to spend a whole bunch of money to get a good sound, but the more costly brands often have features that could be valuable to you. It's wise to research, using the Internet (forums are a good place to start), and see what others think about the various soundcards before you spend your hard-earned cash.

You'll want to get audio recording software to put onto your computer. Again, there are all sorts of brands to choose from. It ranges from free programs (like Audacity) to programs that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. If you find that your recording needs are relatively simple, you can likely manage with one of the less expensive packages. Then again, if you're going to want to record a band, you'll probably want to spend a bit more to get one of the better audio software programs.

You should add a microphone to the must-have equipment list. Get at least one mic that is really good. The quality of this specific piece of audio equipment has quite a bit to do with your final sound (the output of your home recording project).
